Clinics for allergic disorders & airway diseases
Our allergy clinics are for patients with allergic conditions such as hay fever, dust mite allergy, food allergy and asthma as well as for patients with chronic rhinosinusitis and (recurring) nasal polyps.
We offer thorough diagnostics and personalized consultations. Furthermore, we treat rare immunological disorders and rheumatological diseases (e.g. cystic fibrosis/EGPA, immunodeficiencies). We also specialize in specific immunotherapy for allergic diseases and are a centre for the treatment with therapeutic antibodies.
For the best possible patient-care, we are part of the comprehensive allergy centre of TU Munich(link is external) and conduct combined clinics together with our colleagues from dermatology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology and paediatrics. For treatment of rare immunological disorders, we cooperate closely with our colleagues from internal medicine.
An allergy is an excessive reaction of the body’s own defence mechanisms to non-threatening substances e.g. tree pollen. This can result in hay fever, conjunctivits and asthma attacks.
Our department is specialized to test and treat for allergies due to inhaled allergens, such as pollen, animal hair, dust mites, moulds.
We also hold regular consultations with patients suffering from nasal polyps, chronic rhinitis and asthma. These diseases can often not directly be linked to allergens but have a similar underlying pathomechanism.
Allergic diseases primarily reduce the patient’s quality of life, can lead to reduced quality of sleep and a reduced productivity and reduced joy of life at work, in school and during everyone’s free-time. Cough, itchiness, runny nose, runny eyes can be very disturbing as well as have a restrictive effect on daily activities.
The atopic march: Many patients not only have allergic rhinitis but also develop atopic dermatitis and allergic asthma. Especially in children it is therefore very important to start treatment as early as possible.
- Being sensitized for certain allergens can lead to faster development of even more allergies
- Patients with allergic rhinitis have a 4-times increased risk to develop allergic asthma.
- Cross-allergies can result in systemic, life-threatening reactions (allergic shock, anaphylaxis) to different kinds of foods e.g. apples.
- Therefore, early treatment is of the utmost importance. In our department, every patient will be treated according to the most recent national (DGAKI) and international (EAACI) standards.
Previously done diagnostics, such as skin test results, lung functions, detailed medical history, blood results, CT- or MRI-scans.
Please DO NOT take any antihistamines for at least three days before receiving allergy testing. IF the antihistamines have been prescribed by a doctor for specific reasons, please consult your doctor before you stop to take them.

Comprehensive Allergy Centers(link is external), are special centres at university hospitals, certified by the German society of allergology and clinical immunology (DGAKI(link is external)), in which allergy specialists from different departments cooperate closely to offer thourough diagnostics and treatment options especially for the most complex cases.
