Inpatient treatment
The Department of Otolaryngology includes three wards (50 beds), three operating theaters, a sleep laboratory with five beds and a university outpatient clinic, to which an outpatient clinic for voice medicine (phoniatrics) and hearing disorders of children (pedaudiology) is connected. We treat more than 3,000 inpatient and about 30,000 outpatient cases annually.
On our wards, patients have access to modern and brightly furnished one-, two-, three- and four-bed rooms. Each room has a separate bathroom with a shower. An infotainment screen is available at each bedside.
If you live in Munich or the surrounding area you will spend the night at home before the operation day.
After registering in the central patient admission department (at the main entrance) at 8:30 a.m., you will arrive at our ward D0a / b (formerly 3/11 and 3/12):
- A nurse will welcome you, a first admission interview will take place and all the documents you have brought with you will be collected.
- During the morning, a ward doctor will examine you, explain the details of the planned operation and discuss other important questions with you.
- You will also have an appointment in the premedication clinic during the day, where an anesthsiologist will discuss anesthesia questions with you.
- At 2:00 p.m. (Fridays at 1:00 p.m.) the patient presentation takes place in the polyclinic / ENT outpatient clinic. Your ward doctor will introduce you to the director of the clinic or his deputy.
- Occasionally, further examinations for optimal preparation for your operation are necessary, which we will organize for you as soon as possible.
- If you are admitted on the preoperative day, you will be able to move into your room during the day, otherwise you can go home after completing the preliminary examinations.
- Usually your surgery takes place the next Business day.
- The ward doctor will inform you on the day of admission when we are likely to release you again. Of course, we adapt the discharge date to your individual healing process.
Preparing for your operation can take all day, even if we always try to organize everything for you quickly and smoothly!
If you have stayed at home, please be at your ward on the day of the operation at the agreed time (station D0b or C1a / formerly 3/12 and 3/6).
Your surgery takes place during the day. Unfortunately, we cannot predict the exact time because we have to perform each of our operations under the best possible conditions and have to adapt our operation plan to the requirements of the day (e.g. emergency procedures).
Your postoperative stay
A day starts for you with a morning round between 7 a.m. and 7.45 a.m. During this ward round you can also clarify questions about the discharge date. In the course of the morning to afternoon, any necessary examinations will be carried out, which your ward doctor will discuss with you later in the day.
Talks with relatives are possible between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. by appointment Monday-Friday.
Depending on your medical condition, we will arrange an inpatient appointment in our outpatient clinic on the day of discharge. On this day, we carry out wound checks, discuss tissue findings or, if necessary, the next steps in your treatment.
Your post-discharge treatment
Depending on your condition, we will arrange an outpatient appointment for you in our outpatient clinic on the day of discharge. On this day, we will carry out wound checks, discuss the results of fine-tissue examinations or, if necessary, the next steps of your treatment.
